Glenn and Jodie came down to Savannah from Columbus, Ohio to elope. Nothing fancy. No big productions. They wanted to legalize their commitment, begin their lives together, and spend some time together in beautiful Savannah, GA, arguably the most romantic city in the United States.
27 years ago they were first loves, before life, decisions, and next logical steps led them to different lives apart from each other. They reconnected thanks to a high school reunion and the feelings were still there, as intensely as ever. In talking to Glenn about their autumn marriage, he said that his regret is that they never reconnected sooner, and spent a long time apart and they can’t do anything about that so they’ll enjoy each other now to make up for it. Finally. At Last.
Their feelings for each other are palpable, and you can feel them. Glenn showed me a picture he found of when they were 17 years old, together. He was holding a car show ribbon and his shirt was unbuttoned to the middle of his chest, and he had the visible swagger of a teenager with his whole life ahead of him. Jodie was standing next to him, a mere wisp of a girl looking about like my 14 year old daughter, and it was a profound moment for me, an interloper in the story of their lives. She has the man she loves, that she was meant to be with, and he has the woman he was meant to be with, that he loves intensely.
After 27 years apart, now their lives are beginning. At Last.
